The Making of Us: Frances Lambe at the Ireland Pavilion, Expo 2025, Osaka, Japan

The Making of Us was displayed as part of the exhibition in the Ireland Pavilion at Expo 2025, Osaka, Japan

It is a poetic, behind-the-scenes journey into the creative heart of Ireland, where ancient knowledge and modern innovation meet.

From traditional basket weaving to animation and biomedical design, the film captures makers in the flow of their craft, revealing the profound connection between material, environment and process.

Accompanied by a richly layered soundscape composed from the very sounds of making, the film celebrates how creativity is not only a form of expression but a vital force that enriches, empowers, and defines us as human.

Frances Lambe is a ceramic artist from Ireland. She makes sculptural work that is rooted in the natural world and the place where she lives on the east coast of Ireland. Simple curved and undulating forms have detailed patterned surfaces that reference growth patterns found in plants and animals. Templetown beach is her familiar swimming place. The underwater flora, beach textures and the daily tidal flow of this special place have inspired her new work.
